East Tennessee Foundation (ETF) awards scholarships from over 75 scholarship funds in 25 East Tennessee counties, listed below.
ETF also coordinates scholarship awards for students from 16 counties and states outside of our 25-county service area, and for students studying law, architecture, or sports-related fields of study. Please see these listings and descriptions for more information.
Established by Kenneth and Leyanne Harper in memory of their daughter, Abbie Jane Harper, to benefit graduating seniors of Maryville High School.
Provides scholarship assistance to students in East Tennessee who are studying or intending to study nursing.
Established in memory of Angie Grubb, a McMinn County High School student leader and athlete, by her parents, Johnny A. and Glenda Grubb, this fund benefits students from McMinn County.
This fund benefits students enrolled in a program teaching the skills required for a job in a skilled trade.
This fund benefits graduating high school seniors from 10 counties in East Tennessee wishing to pursue careers in science or pre-engineering fields.
Established in 2016 through a bequest from Carl Kirkpatrick, II as a tribute to his late wife, Barbara, this fund benefits single-parent students pursuing undergraduate programs of study at East Tennessee State University.
Established by Danny Maples and Laura Boring in memory of their daughter, Brandy Dana Maples, a Carter High School student leader and athlete from 1992-1995, this fund benefits graduates of Carter High School in Strawberry Plains, Tennessee.
This fund was established to assist graduates of Hancock County High School and Grainger County High School in pursuing programs of study leading to certification as a Registered Nurse.
This fund was established in memory of Brittany Johnson to assist students pursuing an undergraduate degree in our 25 county region, with preference given to female basketball players with financial need attending Maryville College.
Established to assist students pursuing a career in any of a broad variety of fields within pediatric oncology.
This fund was established to assist qualified students (with preference given to female students) pursuing a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at the University of Tennessee or Lincoln Memorial University College of Veterinary Medicine.
Established in memory of Carrie Wolf McConnell, much loved guidance counselor at McMinn County High School, to benefit graduating seniors at McMinn County High School pursuing post-secondary education.
Cherish the Child Legacy Scholarship Fund was established by Cherish the Child, Inc. to provide scholarship assistance to eligible students, age 25 or younger, who were foster care recipients.
Established to provide scholarships to benefit students who have been residents of Campbell County for at least five years.
Established to benefit graduating high school seniors who are members of their high school’s wrestling team(s) in East Tennessee Foundation’s service area, with first preference given to Carter High School seniors and second preference to Halls High School seniors.
Established by Scott Niswonger to honor Coach Jack Blair for his more than 26 years of outstanding service as coach of the Lady Devils basketball team, this fund benefits members of the Lady Devils Basketball Team.
Established to assist veterans from ETF’s 25-county region and Bradley County pursuing a bachelor’s degree.
Established by the C. S. Sands family, this fund benefits graduates of Sequoyah High School in Madisonville, Tennessee.
Established in memory of Debbie Van Cleave, an East Tennessee award-winning artist whose talent in pottery was not diminished by the fact that she was blind, this fund is intended to benefit legally blind students in the ETF service area who possess the drive, motivation, work ethic and self-efficacy exhibited in Debbie’s life.
Established by Brian King in honor of his parents, Dorsey and Betty King, this fund benefits graduating high school seniors from Claiborne and Campbell Counties who intend to study either business or registered nursing.
Established by friends and family of Dr. and Mrs. Richard Kelsey as a tribute to their lifetime commitment to community service in their respective fields, this fund is intended to benefit graduating seniors of Collierville High School in Collierville, Tennessee.
Established by a bequest from Dr. E.E. Perry to assist graduating seniors from Elizabethton/Carter County who may require additional financial support in achieving their educational goals at an institution in the state of Tennessee.
Established in 2018 in memory of Etowah native and graduate of Central High School of McMinn County, Ed Frazier, to benefit students attending Central High School of McMinn County.
This fund was established in 2020 for the benefit of students who require financial assistance to pursue a post-secondary education in a medical-related field.

Established by Martha Fine in memory of her father, Elman McCutchen Merritt, this fund benefits graduates of Campbell High School in Campbell, Missouri.
Established to benefit members of the Dobyns-Bennett High School golf team pursuing a post-secondary education.
Established to benefit students from Sullivan and Washington counties, TN in pursuing a post-secondary education.
Established to benefit members of the Science Hill High School wrestling team pursuing a post-secondary education.
Established by friends of Gail Clay as a tribute to her outstanding career as Director of the Carolyn P. Brown University Center at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, this fund benefits the spouse or children of a full-time, non-exempt employee of the University of Tennessee or other state-supported, public higher education institution located in East Tennessee Foundation’s 25-county service area. The Gail Clay Scholarship is offered to students every four years, and awards next in 2027.
This fund was established through a bequest left by Agnes P. Cobb Yoakum as a tribute to her late husband, Gordon Cobb, and to the field of medical science. Agnes was one of the first female pharmacists in Knoxville, Tennessee, and the Cobbs believed in the power of determination, opportunity and education, and bringing out the best in every individual. This fund benefits students who have graduated from high schools in either Blount, Knox, or Loudon Counties, Tennessee, and are pursuing a medical-related degree.
Established by the Board of Advisors of the Fund for Greene County, this fund benefits the residents of Greeneville and Greene County.
Established in memory of Gregory Weber to benefit graduating high school seniors from a Knox County high school pursuing a bachelor’s degree in computer science.
Established to benefit students of any age seeking post-secondary education who have a permanent intellectual or developmental disability and/or functional impairment. This may include but is not limited to brain injury, musculoskeletal impairment, multiple traumas, neuromuscular disorders such as multiple sclerosis or cerebral palsy, or stroke.
Established to memorialize the life of Hal Canfield, the founding member of the Knoxville Track Club, this fund benefits participants of the Youth Athletic Program of the Track Club.
Established by A. David Martin in memory of his parents, Hugh B. Martin and Julia W. Martin, this fund benefits graduating seniors from Central High School in Knox County or those who have attended Smithwood Baptist Church in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Established by Edith Updyke Harmon in memory of her husband, Jack, this fund provides scholarship assistance to students from a variety of high schools in the Bristol (TN and VA), Blountville (TN) and Bland (VA) communities.
Established by the family of James K. Goldston, this fund provides assistance for students from Tennessee to pursue undergraduate programs of study with a National Security Agency (NSA)-approved Cybersecurity curriculum.
This fund was established in 2020 to provide financial assistance to students who may not display the highest scholastic rankings, yet possess potential and motivation, as they pursue their dream of obtaining a college education.
This fund was established by John Grubb and Louise Sumner initially to provide scholarships to Hiwassee students and Hiwassee graduates going on to a 4-year college or university. The scholarship has been expanded to include any Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) accredited public or private, non-profit college or university in Tennessee, and benefits graduating seniors, graduates of a Monroe County high school, or current college students.
Established for the benefit of members of traditional choral ensembles at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
Established in 2002 through a gift from the Levi Strauss Foundation with support from Johnson County businesses, banks, individuals, and the Johnson County Community Foundation, this fund benefits Johnson County residents.
This fund was established by anonymous donors to provide Johnson County High School graduates the opportunity to continue their education. In creating this scholarship program, the donors chose to support students from Johnson County to promote the positive impact that higher education can have in enhancing the economic and sociological climates within Johnson County communities. The fund benefits students who may not have the highest scholastic rankings, but who have the potential to complete college successfully.
Established in memory of Josey Baker to assist students from Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia.
Established by Karolyn’s family to honor her dedication to and love of the visual arts, this fund benefits graduating seniors from Greenville or Greene County high schools with a passion for art.
This fund was established to provide scholarship assistance to students at Central High School who may not display the highest scholastic rankings, yet still possess great potential and motivation, and who would not otherwise qualify for financial assistance based upon academic achievement.
Established by the Knox Central High Class of ’50 Alumni Association, this fund benefits Central High School graduates.
Established to benefit students who are members of and/or are directly associated with (e.g. cheerleader, team manager, team trainer) their high school football team.
Established in 2010, this fund provides scholarship assistance to low-income members of Boy Scouts of America, Great Smoky Mountain Council.
Established by Logan Chittum Heck in memory and in honor of all persons in Claiborne County who carry the name Logan or Chittum or are related to that name by family connections and, especially in memory of her parents Mary Ruth (Logan) Chittum and Joe Lovelace Chittum, to assist East Tennessee students, with preference given to female residents of Claiborne County.
Established in memory of Lori Blankenship, beloved teacher and coach, to benefit graduating seniors at Greenback High School pursuing post-secondary education.
This fund was established by Jim Hollingsworth to honor his parents, who placed a high value on being supportive of family and friends in the community as they pursued and achieved their dreams and goals. The fund benefits graduates of Clinton High School in Clinton, Tennessee who plan to study business, engineering, or a medical-related field of study.
Established by McMinn County High School Alumni, this fund benefits graduating seniors at McMinn County High School in Athens, Tennessee.
Established by family and friends of Michael D. Curtin, this fund benefits graduating seniors of Anderson County High School.
This fund was established in memory of Michael David Greene by David, Janet, and Jennifer Greene to provide scholarships to talented students who exhibit Michael’s qualities of real and fervent effort, kindness, courage, determination, and dignity, and who are or have been members of the Farragut High School (FHS) band.
Established by Nancy Forrester in memory of Mickey Forrester, this fund benefits graduates of Sullivan East High School in Bluff City, Tennessee.
Established by friends and family of J.C. “Rip” Miller and John Vicars, two leaders who served the community as lifelong coaches and educators, this fund benefits graduating seniors of three high schools in Scott County, Virginia.
Established to assist students who possess the potential for excellence, but may require some additional support in achieving their educational goals, this fund benefits graduates of Rye Cove High School in Duffield, Virginia.
The Phyllis Y. Nichols Scholarship and Student Support Fund exists to support graduating high school seniors in Knox County, Tennessee. It was established by the Knoxville Area Urban League (KAUL) in honor of Phyllis’s many years of service to KAUL and the Knoxville community.
This fund, established by the family of the late R.G. Crossno, benefits graduating seniors of Anderson County High School. Mr. R.G. Crossno, past mayor of Norris, Tennessee, and 21-year member of the Anderson County School Board, dedicated his life to promoting better education throughout the state of Tennessee. Upon the death of R.G.’s wife, Ruth, the Crossno family added her name to the scholarship to memorialize her lifelong commitment to education.
Established by Randall’s brother, Steven, this fund serves as a tribute to Randall’s outstanding career as an architect, after graduating from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
Established by a bequest made by Dr. Sam Mount to the Junior Service League of Blount County in remembrance of his wife, Louise Mount, this fund benefits graduating seniors, adult students, or GED recipients of Blount County.
Established to provide scholarships for graduating high school seniors from Elizabethton High School in Elizabethton, TN who plan to attend East Tennessee State University.
This fund was established by Melvin and Fran Sturm, in memory of their son Brad Sturm, a graduate of Oak Ridge High School, a successful local businessman, a devoted family man, and a tireless community volunteer, to encourage Oak Ridge High School seniors to learn more about the economy of the United States and of other countries and to assist students in continuing their educations.
Established to provide scholarship assistance for Oak Ridge High School students.
Established by Mr. Carroll Brown in memory of his wife, Ruby A. Brown, who served East Tennessee for 25 years as a public health nurse, this fund benefits current public health nurses wishing to continue their nursing education.
Established in 2017 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Knoxville’s Second Presbyterian Church and the longtime commitment of the church to education. The scholarship provides assistance to students attending Maryville College or the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
Established in memory of Spenser F. Powell, brilliant University of Tennessee College of Law graduate, leader, and law clerk, to benefit University of Tennessee College of Law students.
This fund was established to assist promising young people from Knox and Laurel Counties in Kentucky to pursue higher education. Having grown up in Knox and Laurel Counties, the donors are committed to giving something back to the communities of their youth.

Established by Donald K. Carson, Thomas M. Carson, Robert L. Carson, and Jane Carson Lewis to honor their parents, this fund benefits graduates of Oneida High School in Oneida, Tennessee.
The Walters State Community College Visual Arts Scholarship Fund was established to encourage the study of fine arts for students who studied visual arts at Walters State Community College. Awards from this fund will support students who continue their education in visual arts at an accredited college or university.
