Content Strategist
The East Tennessee Foundation (Foundation/ETF) is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) community foundation serving 25 counties in East Tennessee. Created by and for the people of East Tennessee, its mission is to provide philanthropic leadership inspiring donors to make lives better and communities stronger in enduring ways across generations. Governed by a volunteer board of directors, the Foundation has more than 470 charitable funds and seven supporting organizations, has topped $700 million in assets under leadership, and is nearing $500 million in total grants and scholarships awarded since it was established in 1986.
Position Summary
The Content Strategist elevates the brand of the Foundation through effective multi-channel storytelling that brings to life the organization’s mission, vision, goals, and impact. The position reports to the Vice President of Strategic Engagement & Communications and works across ETF teams to develop compelling content and stories that illustrate the Foundation’s unique role in the 25-county region it serves.
Responsibilities
- Create written and visual content for and assist with production of stewardship and marketing materials (impact videos, website and newsletter content, email marketing and digital communications, social media, donor relations materials, fund brochures, annual reports, etc.).
- Capture, edit, and publish purposeful photographic and video content that enhances storytelling across digital, social, web, and print channels.
- Ensure brand and style consistency across all marketing materials and channels.
- Integrate new communication vehicles, materials, and outlets as needed.
- Implement data driven decisions to evaluate, improve, and evolve the Foundation’s content, marketing, and digital strategies.
- Work with the Director of Media Relations to manage social media content strategy across platforms.
- Support effective and collaborative internal communications.
- Undertake other duties as appropriate to support the work of the Foundation.
Qualifications and Experience:
A minimum of three years experience in communications, media, or marketing – ideally including a focus on public interest within nonprofit, philanthropic, or public sector environments. Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, English, or related field. The successful applicant’s education and experience must offer both the credibility and the preparation needed to work independently, accurately, efficiently, and creatively.
Required Skills:
- Advanced, highly effective, and creative verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to produce well-organized and articulate materials, content, reports, publications, presentations, and correspondence.
- Capacity to translate complex information in a clear, concise, and user-friendly manner.
- Familiarity with common writing styles, such as AP and Chicago.
- Strong digital communications and social media skills, including SEO best practices.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills including attention to detail and ability to follow through.
- Demonstrated emotional intelligence and discerning judgement.
- Advanced interpersonal skills to work well as a Foundation team member and to interact with the Foundation’s many constituencies, including but not limited to philanthropists, nonprofits, and community leaders, in a manner that builds trust, commitment, and a shared mission.
- Technical ability to ensure comfort with computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, donor database software, and communication platforms and tools such as Mailchimp, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, and WordPress.
- Refined videography, photography, and/or website skills to complement other communications mediums. .
Other Requirements
This position requires consistent physical presence in ETF’s Knoxville, Tennessee, office for the full-time work week. Work-related travel throughout East Tennessee will be required, including some evening and/or weekend travel and event attendance, and the employee must have reliable access to a vehicle for business travel.
