In 1998, John D. Grubb and his sister Louise G. Sumner, made a permanent charitable endowment to establish the Fund for Monroe County. Two programs were set up within the fund to meet the broad needs of the county. The first, a scholarship program to help secure advanced educational opportunities for students and the second, a general grantmaking program to leave a philanthropic legacy dedicated to improving the lives of residents of Monroe County.

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES:
Monroe County students are eligible to apply for the following 4 scholarships:

  • Ruby A. Brown Memorial Scholarship: for public health nurses or public health nursing students
  • Gail Clay Gail Clay Scholarship (Scholarship not available for 2010-2011 academic year. Next available 2013-2014 academic year.): for spouse or child (graduating high school senior or current college student) of full-time, non-exempt employee of the University of Tennessee or other state-supported, public higher education institution located in East Tennessee Foundation's 25-county service area.
  • Craighead Limestone Scholarship (Scholarship not available for 2010-2011 academic year. Please check in December of 2010 for 2011-2012 academic year): for graduating seniors from Sequoyah High School
  • John D. Grubb & Louise G. Fund for Monroe County Scholarship: for students from any Monroe County high school.
